DEAR BG

"How should I create a dorm room space that I feel inspired in?"

"Take some time to look for inspiration. Pinterest, Tumblr, and magazine articles are great places to start....Then take a look at the picture and see what you can do to make your desk in your apartment like that NOW. Get a cute lamp, organize your pens in a gold jar, hang up pictures etc." - Team BG

"I am coming up on two interviews with small firms in my area that I had previously reached out to about internships. These firms did not have job postings, so I am unsure if the positions are paid.

I was hoping to find out during my interviews if they are paid positions and if so, how much they would be willing to pay me. Do you have any tips on how I can lead the conversation and negotiate if the amount they offer is less than I think is fair?"

"You will want to ask at the end of the interview/when you are offered a position by saying something along the lines of "what would the logistical breakdown of this internship look like? How many days a week? The hours? Is it for credit or a paid or stipend position?" then you will want to pause and let them answer... if it is lower than what you expected you can say something along the lines of "is there any room for increasing the payment from xx to xx? Based off of industry research it is my understanding that xx is the going rate.."" - Team BG

"I’m starting the process of looking & applying for jobs and there’s a company that I’m super excited about with an editorial position and a marketing position open. I am interested in both positions, but am not sure if applying to both would give me a better chance at getting one or make me seem less qualified for one of them. Do you have any thoughts?"

"Our best advice would be to find people in these departments (in the masthead!) and email them your resume to follow up. I don’t think it would hurt you to apply to both! But getting your resume in the right hands is crucial. Use the follow up email template we gave you so you can connect with the right point of contact in the most articulate manner!" - Team BG
