DEAR BG - INTERNSHIPS & NETWORKING

Q: I was offered a few amazing internship opportunities - how do I kindly reject one without burning any bridges?

"First of all - way to go #girlboss!
You should treat yourself to something special and recognize your big achievements!

Agreed, you never want to burn a bridge.
So we suggest you do the follow-up and share with the team that you greatly appreciate their offer and you are having a hard time turning it down because (fill in specific reasons why you love the company and the position...).

Next, be honest and real (why did you have to turn it down - you needed to take a paid position to help with your student loans, you took another internship that was closer to school, you said no because the other opportunity was only 5 hours a week and offered you extra time to study for school etc.)

Then, let them know you would love to be on their radar for future opportunities and then ask the contact if they would be open to staying in touch." - Rachael Bozsik CEO + Founder of The Brand Girls

Q: What are some ideas on how to transition from an internship to a job?

"SHOWCASE YOUR WORTH.
At the end of the day the company will hire you if you can connect positively with the team, while saving the company + your boss time, energy + money.

Put together a presentation showcasing the measurable results that you have achieved over the course of your internship. (include the numbers and the return on investment as a result of your work.)

Formally set up a meeting, create an agenda and a presentation - develop an ask!" - Rachael Bozsik CEO + Founder of The Brand Girls

Q: How can I make my thank you card stand out after an interview or networking?

"Great question!
I love that you are thinking ahead of the game. Some great things to make yours stand out are:

1. Taping your business card inside the thank you card.

2. Including your cell phone number + email in your signature.

3. Creating a call to action (note about how you will move the relationship + conversation forward)
in your note... "I would love to grab coffee in the next month..."
"thank you for introducing me to XYZ" and so on!" - Rachael Bozsik CEO + Founder of The Brand Girls
